Abstract

This paper dates and analyzes a cuneiform text from Uruk containing planetary observations.
I show that the observations date to the first fourteen years of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar
II (604–591 BC) and concern the planet Mars. The date of this text places it among
the earliest texts containing detailed records of astronomical observations from Babylonia.
